A 4.6-magnitude earthquake struck Eastern Samar on Thursday morning, but no aftershocks are expected, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The tectonic quake was recorded at 6:49 a.m., its origin has been located about 17 kilometers southwest of Balangkayan town, the Phivolcs said.
The tremor had a depth of 33 kilometers. It was felt by by different provinces at the following intensities:
Intensity V – Balangkayan, Maydolong, Eastern Samar; Borongan City
Intensity IV – Hernani, Llorente,San Julian, Lawaan & Gen. MacArthur, Eastern Samar
Intensity III – Dolores, Eastern Samar; Tacloban City
Intensity II- Oras, Eastern Samar
Instrumental Intensities:
Intensity V- Borongan City
Intensity II – Catbalogan City; Palo, Leyte
Phivolcs informed the public that the agency is not expecting any aftershocks following Thursday morning’s quake. /jpv
