CEBU CITY-A militiaman was killed in an ambush on Wednesday afternoon in a hinterland village of Bilar town, Bohol province.
Personal grudge was eyed as the motive in the killing of Paulino Banga, a resident of Barangay Dagohoy in Bilar, said Senior Insp. Erenieto Peniza, Bilar police chief, in a phone interview on Thursday.
He, however, said they were not dismissing the possibility that members of the New People’s Army were behind the attack since the victim belonged to the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit, who was assigned in Barangay Magsaysay, Sevilla town, Bohol.
Based on initial investigation, the ambush was staged by three unidentified assailants riding on a single motorcycle, Peniza said.
Banga was heading home on Wednesday afternoon when another motorcycle boarded by three men tailed him. Upon reaching Sitio Matin-ao, Barangay Campagao, one of the passengers of the motorcycle fired at Banga who then fell on the ground.
Then the two passengers approached the victim and fired at him repeatedly, hitting him in the head and chest./lb
