Teen electrocuted by street light in Cagayan

TUGUEGARAO CITY—A 19-year old high school student was killed after he and his cousin received a strong jolt from pole holding a street light in Barangay (Village) Alibagu at Enrile town in Cagayan province on Tuesday night.

The boy, a grade 11 senior high school student of the Magalalag National High School, and his 42-year-old cousin, Jeffrey Condat, stepped out of a friend’s house to buy cigarettes from a nearby store at around 10 p.m. The two, whose arms were locked together, were thrown to the ground when they touched the iron pole.

“Upon verification, we have determined that an electric wire of the street light had peeled off, exposing the wire, and possibly had contact with the pole,” said Chief Insp. Edwin Aragon, Enrile police chief.

However, family members of the lone fatality have requested for an autopsy to determine the cause of his death. /je
