Malacañang mocks LP-led ‘resistance’ vs administration

Malacañang belittled on Wednesday the move of the Liberal Party (LP) to form a “resistance” coalition that would field slates in the local and senatorial races, saying they had tried that before and failed.

“There is nothing new there. They’ve been resisting this administration,” Chief Presidential Legal Cousnel Salvador Panelo told reporters at the Palace.

On Monday, the LP said it would create its own slate for the 2019 midterm elections, dubbed as “The Resistance.”

LP president and Sen. Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan said the party was still in talks with other groups and individuals for the possible opposition coalition.

The members of the coalition, he said, would be named  after “talks have been firmed up, hopefully after the Holy Week.”

“They can always try. They can always fail. They will always try to repeat what they have failed. They are welcome. We welcome. It’s a free society,” Panelo said. /cbb
