DAGUPAN CITY—A farm worker drowned on Monday (Mar. 19) after a banca she was riding with four other passengers capsized while crossing the Agno River in Bugallon town in Pangasinan province, police said on Tuesday (Mar. 20).
A doctor declared Premitiva Aguilan, 64, dead upon arrival at the Lingayen District Hospital in Lingayen town, where rescuers also took the other banca passengers, according to Chief Insp. Francisco Castillo, Bugallon police chief.
Aguilan was with her husband Hernacio Aguilan, 64, Mariel Prado, 19, Joey Prado, 30, and Helen Prado, 50, who all survived after they were rescued by residents living along the river bank.
They were on their way to Barangay Bolaoen to harvest corn when their banca, which had no outriggers, suddenly capsized about 4 p.m.
Castillo said the banca could have been overloaded.
