MANILA, Philippines — Both ropes used to pull the andas or the carriage carrying the image of Jesus Nazareno toward Quiapo Church have already snapped, the Nazareno Command Center said Thursday.

According to the command center, the first rope used to pull the andas already snapped as early as Thursday morning when it crossed Finance Road toward Ayala Boulevard.

“It is confirmed that this morning, the rope snapped while crossing Finance Road towards Ayala Boulevard,” Silgen Cabrito of the Quiapo Church Social Communications Department told reporters in Filipino through Viber.

“And tonight two ropes are gone,” he added.

When asked if this means that there are no longer any ropes pulling the carriage, Cabrito responded: “Yes.”

This also means that the andas was now only being manually pulled and pushed by Hijos del Nazareno.

“It is confirmed that there are no longer ropes pulling the carriage, and it is now being pushed,” the command center said, as quoted by Cabrito.

The procession started at around 4:41 a.m., with the carriage containing the original image of Jesús Nazareno departing from the Quirino Grandstand to head to the Quiapo Church.

This year’s procession seems to be taking longer than the previous years, as the “dungaw” or the solemn moment shared between the images of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel de San Sebastian and Jesus Nazareno at the Minor Basilica of San Sebastian was held at around 5:45 p.m.

In 2024, the traditional dungaw was held at around 2:52 p.m., while it was held at 4:30 p.m. in 2020.
