Today, March 19, is the 287th birth anniversary of revolutionary leader Gabriela Silang.
Together with her husband, Diego Silang, they led several revolts against the Spaniards in Northern Luzon.
She was captured in September 1763 and executed by hanging.
In Makati, a monument of Gabriela riding a horse stands in the middle of the city to honor her.
It was created by Jose Mendoza in 1971. —Marielle Medina
