MRT deploys 12 trains as repairs improve
After two months, the Metro Rail Transit line-3 (MRT-3) again managed to deploy 12 trains on Sunday as it continued repairs to improve train service.
MRT-3 management said that at 6:12 a.m. its 12th train went into service and trimmed intervals between train arrivals down to seven minutes.
The last time the MRT-3 had 12 trains in operation was on Jan. 22, media relations officer Aly Narvaez told INQUIRER.net
Narvaez said the increase in number of operating trains was because needed spare parts had arrived.
“We largely attribute this improvement to the ongoing delivery of the spare parts we procured last year,” she said.
According to Narvaez, 70% of the parts already arrived in the country and were being installed on the trains.
Narvaez said they hope to deploy 15 trains after the Holy Week break, when it is set to suspend operations from Holy Wednesday to Easter Sunday.
“We target to restore the train availability to 15 sets during peak hours after Holy Week maintenance,” she said.
Since the start of the month until this morning, the MRT-3 recorded five unloading incidents, Narvaez said. /cbb
