Drug suspect killed, cop hurt in Laguna buy-bust

An illegal drug suspect was killed while a police officer was wounded in a buy-bust operation in Calamba City Monday afternoon.

Cris Pantaleon, alias Ompong, 26, earlier surrendered to the government’s program for drug users and pushers but returned to selling illegal drugs, Supt. Reynaldo Maclang, Calamba police chief, said.

Maclang said in a report that members of the Police Drug Enforcement Unit
conducted a buy-bust operation around 3 p.m. in Barangay Pansol targeting Pantaleon and another suspect, Harrizon Luna, 31.

When the suspects realized that they were dealing with the police, the suspects allegedly drew out their guns and started firing. They hit
Police Officer 1 Randolf Hizon, who was brought to the hospital.

Pantaleon, the report said, escaped into one of the houses in the area but continued exchanging shots with the police until he was killed.

A wounded Luna, meanwhile, managed to escape and bring himself to the Calamba Medical Center, where he was later arrested by the authorities.

In Rosario town, Batangas, a suspected drug pusher was wounded when he
tried to attack arresting policemen around 10:30 p.m. in Barangay
Baligabo.

The police were about to arrest Romeo Pasia, when he ran back into his house, grabbed a bolo, and attempted to attack the police, a report from the Batangas police said.

The policemen fired their gun and wounded Pasia.
