A woman in Australia fell 268 meters to her death from Sydney’s tallest structure on Thursday.

The middle-aged, unidentified woman unclipped her safety harness and jumped from the Skywalk attraction in the Sydney Tower Eye, news.com.au reported. Witnesses saw how she landed on a canopy, leaving them traumatized.

According to the report, she became agitated and threatened to harm herself before jumping off the tower. Paramedic crews responded to the woman, but she was declared dead on arrival upon reaching a hospital.

New South Wales Police Inspector Robert Winkler told reporters on the scene that their crime department was assessing the woman. When asked by reporters about details of the incident, he replied, “I can’t comment on specific details of what has taken place.”

Police are also investigating the circumstance as to how the woman managed to remove her harness. They will likewise pay close attention to safety protocols at the tower.

The 309-meter-tall Sydney Tower Eye is ranked as “one of the safest buildings in the world,” the tower’s website said. It has been closed until further notice, together with Castlereagh and Market Streets, which surround the building. Katrina Hallare /ra
