NBI to transfer Taguba to PNP custody

FILE – Mark Ruben Taguba II is being escorted by an agent of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) at the Manila City Hall of Justice on Friday, February 9, 2018, for the hearing on his “very urgent motion” seeking continued detention at the NBI headquarters. For now, however, the court allowed Taguba to stay under the NBI’s custody pending the resolution of his petition. The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said on Tuesday that it will transfer customs broker Mark Taguba to the custody of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in compliance with the order of the Manila Regional Trial Court.

Taguba will be moved from the NBI detention center to the PNP Headquarters Support Service Custodial Center in Camp Crame, Quezon City, NBI’s Information Officer Nicanor Suarez told reporters.

Taguba is one of the accused in the shipment of P6.4-billion worth of shabu last year.

He has been under the NBI custody since Feb. 1, 2018. Taguba urged the court to allow him to stay at the NBI due to threats to his life but the court denied his request.

Aside from Taguba, only Eirene Mae A. Tatad, an alleged consignee of shipment, is in detention. She was arrested in Iloilo City last Feb. 2.
