Man gunned down while playing cards
A man was shot dead as he was playing cards in front of the Philippine Science High School campus in Quezon City on Monday.
The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) identified the victim as Michael Sahagun Sr., a 40-year-old resident of San Roque II in Barangay Bagong Pag-asa.
A report to Chief Supt. Guillermo Eleazar, QCPD director, said that the victim’s daughter had accompanied him to buy food around 3:20 a.m. However, Sahagun stopped along the way to join a group of men playing cards on Agham Road.
At this point, four men approached the victim and shot him once in the back. Sahagun was rushed to East Avenue Medical Center where he was declared dead on arrival.
Eleazar said they had already identified the gunmen who remained at large. According to him, investigators were still trying to determine the motive behind the killing although they were looking at the angle of illegal drugs.
Senior Insp. Elmer Monsalve, head of the QCPD homicide unit, said they had discovered that the suspects were involved in illegal drugs and robberies in the area. He added that it was likely that they also lived in San Roque II. —Jhesset O. Enano
