Today, Feb. 21, is the 163rd birth anniversary of painter Felix Resurreccion Hidalgo.
Born in Binondo, Manila, he studied at the University of Santo Tomas.
Hidalgo was a contemporary and an acquaintance of Juan Luna and Jose Rizal.
An award-winning painter, he received awards in Paris in 1889, in Chicago in 1892 and at the Panama-Pacific Exposition in 1915.
His paintings were exhibited at the French Academy.
Hidalgo died in March 1913.
A street in Quiapo, Manila was named after him. —Marielle Medina
