A southbound train of the Metro Rail Transit line 3 (MRT-3) train offloaded more than 1,000 passengers on the tracks during Tuesday morning’s rush hour due to a system failure.

In an advisory, MRT-3 media relations officer Aly Narvaez said 1,070 passengers were unloaded between Ortigas and Shaw Boulevard stations after one of its trains suffered an “electrical failure in our braking system” at 6:32 a.m.

People needed to walk on the tracks to get to one of the stations.

“Evacuation of passengers to Ortigas station is still ongoing,” Narvaez said.

The advisory did not state the number of affected passengers.

The MRT-3 official said the service disruption was caused by “worn out electrical sub-components” such as insulator, regulator, and main chopper.

The train was brought back to the depot for repair and replacement of electrical components, Narvaez added. /cbb
