The low pressure area (LPA), which was formerly tropical depression “Basyang,” was spotted some 240 kilometers south-southeast of Puerto Princesa City, Palawan early Thursday morning, the weather bureau said.
Basyang weakened into an LPA as it moved towards Palawan since late Wednesday afternoon.
The LPA was expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered to widespread rain showers and thunderstorms over Palawan, according to the 4 a.m. 24-hour public weather forecast of Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
Pagasa said that moderate to heavy rain in the province may result to flooding and landslides.
The state weather agency also said that a tail-end of a cold front would affect Bicol Region as well as the provinces of Samar and Quezon and would cause overcast skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in those areas.
Meanwhile, Pagasa said that Batanes, Calayan Group of Islands, Metro Manila and the rest of the country would experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to the northeast monsoon or hanging amihan, and localized thunderstorms. /kga
