The inter-agency National Food Authority (NFA) Council on Monday approved the importation of 250,000 metric tons (MT) of rice.

“The standby authority to import 250,000 metric tons is approved. The importation should arrive after the first week of June,” Secretary to the Cabinet and NFA Council Chairman Leoncio Evasco said.

Evasco said the mode of importation will be government-to-private procurement.

“We assure the public that there is no rice shortage and the importations are only for NFA buffer stock,” he said.

“The NFA Council is on top of the situation and we will continue to champion the interest of the Filipino people,” he added. /je
