Higher salaries should be more reason for policemen to better perform their duties and not sleep on the job, the spokesperson of the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Monday.
Chief Supt. John Bulalacao issued the statement after National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Director Oscar Albayalde ordered the dismissal of several policemen caught sleeping and drinking while on duty.
“Our people on duty are expected to perform their duty to the best of their ability. Hindi namin inaasahan na patulog-tulog sila (We do not expect them to sleep on the job),” Bulalacao said in a press briefing.
Last week, Albayalde ordered the relief of the police chiefs of Muntinlupa City, Pasay City and San Juan City for failing expections.

Bulalacao echoed Albayalde’s statement that police chiefs should be actively monitoring the acts of their men on duty.
“Tama si Gen. Albayalde. ‘Yung immediate superiors or the station commanders of these police personnel on the ground should be on their toes to continuously inspect our people on the ground just to ensure that they’re doing their job,” he said.
“Nobody is allowed to be remiss. They’re being paid to do their job. In fact, yun ang inaasahan ng atin kababayan (That is what the people expect of them),” he added. /cbb
