CALBAYOG CITY — Aside from medals, winners in the Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association (Evraa) meet being held here, will receive mahogany seedlings so these can be planted at their school compounds or communities.

The idea was hatched by organizers of Evraa, which opened on Sunday and would end on Feb. 10, to educate student athletes about the importance of trees in preserving the environment, said Raul Agban, city schools division superintendent for Calbayog.

Agban said about 4,500 mahogany seedlings would be given to winning athletes. The seedlings were donated by the City Environment and Natural Resources Office in Calbayog. —Joey A. Gabieta
