Lawyer Topacio’s ‘family jewels’ saved by the bell
At least, lawyer Ferdinand Topacio’s “family jewels” have been saved.
This was the reaction of presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda to the announcement by the Parañaque police on Friday that they had already served an arrest warrant on former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on charges of electoral sabotage.
Topacio, a lawyer of former First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo, said on television the other day that he would have one of his “balls” cut off if the Arroyos did not return from their planned foreign trip, where the ex-President planned to seek medical treatment.
Friday’s arrest order apparently dashed any hope by Arroyo of leaving the country anytime soon.
De Lima amused
At a press conference in Malacañang, Lacierda read a statement saying: “The decision of the Pasay City regional court allowed Ferdinand Topacio to save his family jewels.”
Lacierda immediately left, leaving reporters and a very amused Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, who was also at the press conference, laughing.
The Palace was clearly relieved by the turn of events that ended with Arroyo being served a warrant of arrest by a police officer while she was lying in bed at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Taguig City.
