It looks like former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has taken a penchant for quoting famous historical figures in his plight for justice, concerning the ballot recount versus Vice President Leni Robredo. After quoting famed novelist George Orwell in his Instagram post last Jan. 10, Marcos this time took inspiration from Winston Churchill.
Churchill served as British Prime Minister twice and governed Britain during World War II; he is known as a vanguard of democracy, and a symbol of resistance and inspiration through his morale.
The quote read, “If you are going through hell, keep going.”
With the ballot recount underway, Marcos has not wasted any opportunity to express himself in social media and to keep his followers in the loop. In the debut of his YouTube vlog last Jan. 13, produced by his social media director Franco Mabanta, Marcos shared a video of him in a conference in Cafe Adriatico in Malate where he was subjected to a question-and-answer session.
A reporter asked Marcos, “If ever proclaimed vice president, what would you do and what would you undo? Yung nagawa ng predecessor mo, wala kang planong i-undo?”
Marcos did not mince words, considering that he has more leeway to directly share his opinions through his own vlog.
“What would I undo?” asked Marcos through stifled laughter. “Wala namang nagawa, so what will you undo?” he said, pertaining to Robredo.
Other than taking a jab at Robredo, Marcos also talked about social media’s importance to him.
“Social media is the great leveler,” Marcos said in his vlog. “Traditional media has not been very kind to us. Traditional media have been detractors of mine, kung ano anong sinusulat na hindi naman totoo.”
Marcos’ vlog debut proved to be a success, as it was circulated through his Instagram, Twitter and Facebook pages, where his followers offered their unwavering support. One netizen follower, Victor Chipe said, “BBM is not our vice president. He is not for that position. BBM is intended to be our next Philippine President.”
Another netizen, Lito Padilla, said that the future of the Philippines is in good hands if ever Marcos becomes president. “Sana sunod kay Daddy D syah na,” Padilla wrote.
Others stood by Marcos, asserting that he is the true winner of the vice presidential elections and called for justice, not just for Bongbong but also for his father, the late former President of the Philippines Ferdinand Marcos, Sr.
Meanwhile, Robredo’s camp are also gearing up for the ballot recount, according to a report from INQUIRER last Wednesday, Jan. 31, where Robredo’s lawyer Romulo Macalintal said that the ballot images from Marcos may have been “fabricated or manufactured.”
“If Marcos’ ballot images do not tally with the ballot images in the custody of the PET, then those in Marcos’ possession are clearly fabricated, manufactured or tampered with to suit his political propaganda,” said Macalintal.
As for Marcos’ claim that they had shocking evidence, Macalintal brushed the accusation off. “This a laughing matter,” Macalintal said. “It made me laugh.”
