ZAMBOANGA CITY – Suspected Abu Sayyaf bandits set off an explosive outside the house of a government engineer in Basilan on Thursday evening.

But Isabela City police chief Supt. Restituto Pangusban said no one was harmed in the 9 p.m. explosion that took place outside the house of Basilan district engineer Soler Undug on Purok Yakal in Barangay San Rafael in Isabela City.

Pangusban said it was fortunate the bomb exploded outside the concrete fence of Undug’s house and did not hit anyone.

“No casualty or injuries recorded during the incident,” Pangusban said.

“Post-blast investigators conducted investigation and recovered parts of a battery pack for a cellular phone, base of a possible pipe bomb, parts of cellular phone keypad, shattered pieces of GI pipe, and shattered parts of cellular phone screen,” he also said. /kga
