Senator Nancy Binay wants Filipino soldiers to enjoy free or discounted tickets in the country’s theaters and cinemas.

In Senate Bill No. 116, Binay seeks to grant tax deductions to theaters and cinemas that would grant free admission or discounted rates to members of the Philippine military.

“In addition to the tax deduction under Section 3, the incentives granted by theaters and cinemas shall be exempt from any amusement tax under the National Internal Revenue Code or any tax of similar nature on such kind of incentive that may be imposed by Local Government Units under the law,” Binay said her bill.

In filing the measure, Binay pointed out the “declared policy of the state to “strengthen the patriotic spirit and national consciousness of the military and respect for people’s rights in the performance of their duty.”

“Professionalism in the armed forces and adequate remuneration and benefits of its members shall be a prime concern of the state,” she added.     /kga
