40-yr-old man arrested for raping deaf-mute daughter

ILIGAN CITY – Police authorities arrested a 40-year old carpenter in Malabang, Lanao del Sur for reportedly raping his 16-year old deaf-mute daughter.

Chief Superintendent Graciano Mijares, the director of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) police, said the suspect, Toto, was now being held under custody of the Malabang police while charges were being prepared against him.

He said the carpenter was arrested on Saturday morning after her daughter, Angel (real name also withheld), complained that her father had sexually molested her.

Based on the victim’s complaint – made through an interpreter – she and her father were inside their house when the latter suddenly covered her mouth and dragged her into the room, where he raped her.

Mijares said the police knew the case was sensitive but were assisting the girl in her quest for justice. /je
