Free MRT, LRT rides for fun run participants

MANILA, Philippines- All participants of the annual “Run for the Pasig River” marathon will get free rides on the MRT and LRT from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Sunday, the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) said in a statement.

Participants simply have to show their race bibs at the MRT or LRT stations to avail of the free rides, the DOTC said in their statement released Friday.

protecting our environment,” Transportation and Communications Secretary Mar Roxas said in the statement.

“DOTC also strongly supports the use of green technology in certain sectors of

the public transport sector, and the anti-pollution campaign in our roadways,” Roxas said.

The venue for the marathon would be along Roxas Boulevard starting at different points, depending on the distance, and ending at the SM Mall of Asia Globe.

The Manila District Traffic Enforcement Unit has released their traffic advisory regarding closure of the stretch of Roxas Boulevard from Katigbak Parkway to P. Ocampo Avenue.

Vehicles going southbound intending to pass through Roxas Boulevard shall detour left on P. Burgos avenue, right on Maria Orosa avenue, right on T.M. Kalaw avenue, left on M.H. del Pilar avenue,  left on President Quirino avenue, right on Mabini then to F.B. Harrison or Taft Avenue towards their destinations.

Vehicles going northbound would have to detour on Buendia (formerly Gil Puyat avenue), left on F.B. Harrison or Taft avenue, then left on President Osmena Highway towards their destinations.

The marathon held last year, dubbed as the “10.10.10 Run for the Pasig River”, had 116,086 participants and was said to have made it to the Guinness Book of World Records according to their website.
