The province of Compostela Valley was created by virtue of Republic Act No. 8470. The 11 municipalities comprising Compostela Valley were previously part of Davao del Norte province. The town of Nabunturan became the province’s capital.

The town of Passi in Iloilo province became a city by virtue of Republic Act No. 8469 signed by then President Fidel Ramos Dubbed the “Sweet City in the Heart of Panay,” Passi City produces sugarcane, sugar and palay. With a total land area of 25,139 hectares, Passi City is the largest among the cities and towns in Iloilo province.
