MANILA, Philippines – Former Commission on Elections chairman Benjamin Abalos on Friday immediately went to the Supreme Court moments after the poll body included him in the electoral sabotage case filed against former President and now Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
In a very urgent motion for the issuance of a temporary restraining order, Abalos accused the Comelec of railroading the resolution of the poll fraud case filed against him, Arroyo and 38 others.
“Coupled with the statements of [Palace] spokesperson Edwin Lacierda … about the imminent filing of cases against herein petitioner … it is plain and manifest that there is not only a scheme to target petitioner Abalos but also that there is undue haste to file electoral sabotage charges against herein petitioner,” Abalos said in a petition filed by his lawyer Brigido Dulay.
