Over 60,000 evacuees in shelters due to Mayon — NDRRMC

Over 60,000 individuals are in evacuation centers due to the restive Mayon volcano, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Thursday.

A total of 17,940 families or 66,442 persons are being served in evacuation centers inside 67 evacuation centers in Camalig, Guinobatan, Ligao City, Daraga, Tabaco City, Malilipot, Santo Domingo and Legazpi City.

About 2,179 families or 9,058 families are outside evacuation centers or sought help from their friends and family.

Fifty domestic flights have been cancelled because of the volcanic activity.

The NDRRMC also noted that the Department of Agriculture has transported 167 animals within the extended danger zone in Camalig and Daraga to safety.

The disaster agency said they have allotted P32.9 million worth of assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Office of Civil Defense, local government units and non-government organizations. /je
