DID YOU KNOW: 130th birth anniversary Sen. Mariano Jesus L. Cuenco
Today, Jan. 16, is the 130th birth anniversary of the late Sen. Mariano Jesus L. Cuenco.
Born in 1888, he finished law in 1911 at Escuela de Derecho (later known as Manila Law School) and passed the bar in 1913.
He served as secretary of Public Works and Communications from 1936 to 1939.

Cuenco was elected senator in 1941 and reelected in 1946. He served as Senate president and chair of the Commission on Appointments from 1949 to 1951.
Cuenco died on Feb. 25, 1964. —Marielle Medina
