3 SC justices show up at House impeach hearing vs Sereno

Three Supreme Court magistrates arrived at the House of Representatives on Monday to testify in the impeachment hearing against Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno.

Associate Justices Diosdado Peralta, Lucas Bersamin and Samuel Martires entered the hall at around 9:40 a.m. They were accompanied by Court Administrator Midas Marquez.

The House justice committee, chaired by Oriental Mindoro Rep. Reynaldo Umali, was determining whether there was probable cause to pursue and elevate to the Senate the impeachment case against Sereno.

The complaint was filed by lawyer Lorenzo Gadon, who has been accusing the country’s top magistrate of failing to declare her assets and making questionable decisions that affected the court processes.                         /kga
