DID YOU KNOW: 124th birth anniversary of Dr. Hilario Lara

Today, Jan. 15, is the 124th birth anniversary of the late National Scientist Dr. Hilario Lara.

He established the Institute of Public Health  at the University of the Philippines and the first  medical library in the country.

He was also the first Filipino to become a member of the World Health Organization’s advisory panel of experts in public health administration.

Known as the “Father of the Modern Public Health Movement” in the country, he was acclaimed for his pioneering work in epidemiology studies.

He was conferred the title of National Scientist in 1985.

Lara died on Dec. 18, 1987. —Marielle Medina
