More than 800 street sweepers to be deployed for Traslacion

Aside from the 5,000 policemen, more than 800 street sweepers would also be deployed as Quiapo, Manila braces for Traslacion 2018 on Tuesday.

Manila Mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada has instructed the Department of Public Services (DPS) on Sunday “to ensure less garbage” on the route of the Black Nazarene procession.

“Let’s hope that everything will be peaceful and that the devotees should be more conscious of the environment,” Estrada said in a statement.

“Let’s hope and pray that everybody will cooperate this time to ensure cleanliness and safety for all,” he added.

In 2017, 65 trucks of garbage were collected during the 21 hour procession and 957 DPS personnel were deployed.

The EcoWaste Coalition earlier appealed the devotees for a garbage-free Traslacion and requested to keep Rizal Park clean. /je
