MANILA, Philippines – If constitutionalist lawyer Homobono Adaza had his way, he wouldn’t allow former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to leave the country.

But since the decision of the Supreme Court to issue a temporary restraining order stopping the government’s travel ban on Mrs. Arroyo was immediately “executory,” the former governor of Misamis Oriental and opposition lawyer said that Arroyo should still be allowed to seek treatment abroad.

“There is already an order of the Supreme Court. Now the Supreme Court should be obeyed because if we do not even obey our courts, what’s going to happen to the rule of law?” Adaza, who was visiting a client in the hospital, told reporters in an ambush interview at the St. Luke’s Medical Center in Taguig City.
