Duterte seeks creation of trust fund for BI employees

President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered the creation of a trust fund for Bureau of Immigration (BI) employees, a Palace official said Thursday.

“The Chief Executive has directed the creation of a trust fund for the payment of salaries and overtime to BI employees,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a statement.

“The President recognizes the hard work and sacrifices made by government employees, including those of the Bureau of Immigration employees,” he added.

The trust fund will be subject to such guidelines that will be issued by the Department of Justice, the Department of Budget and Management and the Commission on Audit, Roque said.

The said guidelines will be sourced from the express lane fees and charges under the Department of Justice (DOJ)-BI Special Provision No. 1, “Immigration Fees and Collections,” Volume I-A, page 1062.

“This clearly shows that the President places the welfare of those in the bureaucracy among his top priority,” Roque said. /jpv
