At least nine individuals, including two policemen, were arrested for illegal discharge of firearms, according to Philippine National Police’s (PNP) data from Dec. 16 until Dec. 27.
The arrested policemen have yet to be identified but according to the PNP’s public information office, they are facing summary dismissal proceedings and are under pre-charge investigation.
Aside from the police-suspects, a security guard, a barangay official, and four other civilians have been arrested for indiscriminate firing.
Authorities are still going after seven individuals for firing guns illegally, including another policeman assigned at the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), a former Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (Cafgu) in Bicol Region and five other civilians in Metro Manila.
Due to the separate incidents, three persons were injured, one in Metro Manila and two others in Central Luzon and Bicol Regions.
Since the said period, the PNP recorded 14 incidents of illegal discharge of firearms nationwide, seven of which happened in Metro Manila.
A total of 27,772 PNP personnel have been deployed to ensure peace and order during the Christmas season and New Year revelries. /jpv
