Magnitude 5.2 quake strikes at sea off Sarangani town
DAVAO CITY – A magnitude 5.2 quake struck at sea off Sarangani town in Davao Occidental around 8:47 p.m. Monday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
Phivolcs said on its website that the tectonic quake had a depth of 12 kilometers and the epicenter was traced some 236 kilometers southeast of the island-town of Sarangani.
No damage was expected from the quake but Phivolcs said the likelihood of aftershocks was high.
Phivolcs did not issue any tsunami warning but the National Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) issued a text advisory, urging people living on Sarangani Island and nearby areas to be alert and be prepared for any emergency.
