The days of “small syndicates” in the Commission on Elections (Comelec) are numbered.
Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr. on Wednesday declared that he would be running after “syndicates” within the organization purportedly involved in the selling of election returns and certificates of canvass during elections.
Purging these unscrupulous employees in the organization was a vital move in reviving the integrity of the election body, said Brillantes during his keynote speech during the “Integrity Summit” at the Comelec Wednesday.
“While the big majority of the employees and senior staff of the Comelec are not involved, there are others, small syndicates within the organization, still existing,” he said. “Since we are in the subject of integrity, I feel that I should move fast on this and pull them out of this organization.”
The “cleansing” of the election body would begin in “few days or weeks,” according to the poll chief. “We will be going after individuals who are within the small syndicates in the Comelec,” he warned.
