Authorities have launched a manhunt for an 18-year-old prisoner who escaped from the Quezon City Jail Sunday morning, radio reports said.

The escapee, identified as JR Mananquil, was jailed last Dec. 7 for carnapping and illegal possession of firearms, Radyo Inquirer reported.

Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Senior Insp. Xavier Solda was quoted by radio dzBB as saying Mananquil climbed up a spiral staircase inside the facility before escaping over a nearby wall.

Quezon City Jail Tracking Team at BJMP NCR Special Tactics and Response Team are investigating how the escape happened.  /cbb
