Suffering from itchy eyes, one woman in China thought that what she was going through was normal, until she got informed by a doctor about her condition.

According to a report by Sina via Oriental Daily, a 62-year-old woman, only identified as Xu from the Hubei province, had 100 parasites living in her eyelashes.

The woman first complained about having constantly itchy, red eyes. Since it has been her condition for two years, she had gotten used to it. To relieve her discomfort, she used eye drops.

What she thought was a remedy led to something worse, as her eyelashes eventually got stuck together, prompting her to visit a doctor.

Upon seeking medical help, she was diagnosed with blepharitis and conjunctivitis, relating to inflamed eyelids. This was also when she was informed about the mites found on her lashes. The medical examination stated that a single follicle was home to about ten mites, which led to estimates that she had over 100 mites in her eyelashes.

As to how the woman acquired the mites, she had been using an unwashed pillowcase since 2012, and her room had no air circulation. The woman has recovered, later reports said. Katrina Hallare/JB
