MANILA, Philippines—The police on Wednesday said it would invite radio disc jockey Angelika Schmeing-Cruz, more popularly known as Angelicopter, to come in for questioning as they continue to look for clues to help them identify the man who shot Talk ‘N Text cager Ali Peek.
Senior Supt. Armando Bolalin, Mandaluyong City Police chief, told the INQUIRER that he was hopeful that Cruz, who is also a courtside reporter for the Philippine Basketball Association, could provide them with valuable information since she was in the area 10-15 minutes before Peek was shot.
He said that he had tasked the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group to extend the invitation to Cruz.
“She was there before [Peek was shot]. They were filming. We are hopeful there’s something she can tell us,” Bolalin added.
According to him, police investigators were examining a copy of the footage filmed by Cruz’s camera crew to see if the gunman was included in any of the shots.
Last week, CIDG agents conducted a follow-up operation which turned up what could be useful information although Bolalin said they still had to verify it.
When pressed for more details, he refused to elaborate.
On Nov. 7, Peek, a Filipino-American born in Hawaii, was shot in the nape at the parking lot of RFM Gym on the corner of Sheridan and Pioneer Streets in Mandaluyong City as he was about to board his car.
Nobody saw the actual shooting but witnesses said they saw a man wearing a light green T-shirt and khaki shorts running away from Peek’s car afterward.
Police have yet to determine the motive behind the attack.
Peek said he thought the man was just a fan until the latter grabbed his bag although he managed to take it back. Seconds later, the man shot him in the back.
