OFW’s kin wins house and lot in summit
The sister of an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) won the major prize during the 7th OFW Summit held at the World Trade Center last November 22.
Zysa Bisquera said she could not believe she won the house and lot given away during the summit spearheaded by the Villar Social Institute for Poverty Alleviation and Governance (Villar SIPAG), an event press statement said.
“Hangad namin na isang araw ay wala na tayong kababayang mangingibang-bansa at iiwanan ang kani-kanilang pamilya para maghanap-buhay. Kaya marapat lamang na bigyan natin sila ng panibagong kabuhayan at kaalaman upang ang ating pangarap ay maging makatotohanan,” Sen. Cynthia Villar, head of Villar SIPAG , said in a statement on Sunday.
[We hope that one day, no Filipino will have to fly abroad to work and leave their families behind. It is only fitting that we give them new livelihood opportunities and knowledge to make our dreams come true.]
Bisquera said they did not own a house and lot and were living as informal settlers.
She said her family was praying for one of the “sari-sari store livelihood packages” to help them put up a small business.
