Chief PNP questions timing of ‘damaging’ Reuters report on drug deaths

“If you want the PNP to look bad, you can do it. You can really do it.”

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Dir. Gen. Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa said this as he questioned the timing of the release of a report from Reuters about an anti-drugs operation in Tondo, Manila last month where three suspected drug personalities were allegedly summarily executed.

“Tina-timing nila saka ilalabas mga ganung damaging reports about the PNP kung kelan ibabalik sa amin ang drug operations. Ibig sabihin yung mga kalaban natin, ayaw talaga pabalikin sa atin ang war on drugs,” Dela Rosa told reporters.

(They are timing the release of the damaging reports just when the war on drugs is about to be returned to the PNP. It means there are enemies who do want the war on drugs to be given back to us.)

“Ano kinatatakutan nila? Hindi naman sila naka drugs siguro,” Dela Rosa said.

(What are they afraid of? They are probably not on drugs.) /jpv
