Four-month-old Ysabella Elisse Basa was born with biliary atresia, a rare liver disease that affects one in every 19,000 to 20,000 babies.

Babies diagnosed with the disease have an obstruction in their bile duct, trapping the bile inside their bodies. This can cause liver damage and eventually lead to biliary cirrhosis and liver failure.

“My baby’s condition requires her to have a liver transplant in Taiwan at a cost of P5 million,” said Baby Ysabella’s mother, Kathleen Basa, 23.

“A transplant is my baby’s only hope for a normal life,” Kathleen said, adding that this was the recommendation of her daughter’s doctors at Philippine General Hospital and St. Luke’s Medical Center-Quezon City.

Baby Ysabella first showed biliary atresia symptoms at two months old. “I am humbly appealing to you for financial assistance. This means so much as this is a gift of hope, a gift of life,” Kathleen said.

She can be reached at 0917-3101368. Donations can be deposited in Ysabella’s BDO account number (00678 08246 22) or in the BPI account of Kathleen’s sister, Charmaine Elaine Basa (0973) 9120079.
