The Department of Justice (DOJ) is mum on the two day riot inside the New Bilibid Prison (NBP).

Magdalo Representative Gary Alejano revealed that a riot inside Bilibid’s Maximum Security Prison has left two prisoners dead and 12 injured.

Sought to confirm Alejano’s statement from officials of the DOJ yielded no result.

A source, however, said the riot Alejano was referring to happened last Saturday and Sunday first at the Maximum Security Prison and then spilled over at the Medium Security compound the following day.

The source said it was a clash between two gangs—the Sputnik Gang and the Batang Cebu.

The source said during the chaos, there are only four members of the SWAT team who were pushed in the corner. One tried to fire a warning shot but he was attacked. In the process, the attacker was shot in the stomach. The other inmate was hit in his shoulder and hand.

The same gangs from the medium security prison also clashed the following day.

The source said drugs was the cause of the clash. /je
