Riot in New Bilibid Prison? Alejano bids DOJ to investigate

/ 11:40 AM November 23, 2017

Magdalo lawmaker Gary Alejano called on the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Thursday to investigate a supposed recent riot inside the maximum security compound of the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) where two prisoners were killed and 12 others were wounded.

Alejano said he “received information” that the prisoners sustained multiple gunshot and stab wounds during the incident.

“I received information that some days ago, 2 prisoners of the New Bilibid Maximum Security Prison were killed and 12 were admitted in the prison hospital after receiving multiple gunshot and stab wounds,” Alejano said in a statement.

The former Marine soldier said he was also “tipped-off about a plan to instigate a riot inside the prison that would serve as grounds to kill-off a number of inmates.”

If the reports are true, Alejano said he would urge the House justice committee or other committees concerned to investigate the incident.     /kga
