‘Salome’ slams San Juan, Batangas
Tropical Depression “Salome” slammed San Juan, Batangas on Thursday evening, the state weather bureau said.
Salome made landfall at 7 p.m., while maintaining its strength, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.
Calabarzon, which is in the direct path of the tropical cyclone, is expected to experience moderate to heavy rains.
Pagasa also warned of “serious flooding” in flood-prone areas after the red rainfall warning was issued over Metro Manila, Batangas, Cavite and Laguna at 9:30 p.m. This means heavy to intense rains are expected in the next two hours.
Signal No. 1 remained hoisted over Metro Manila,Bulacan, Pampanga, Southern Zambales, Rizal, Bataan, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate including Ticao and Burias Islands, Romblon, Marinduque, Quezon, Laguna, Cavite, Batangas, Oriental Mindoro and Occidental Mindoro.
Salome packed maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 90 kph. It moved west northwest at 25 kph.
