A funeral home worker in Caloocan City was killed on Monday afternoon by an unknown gunman while he was on duty.

Bengie Buyones, 36, died on the spot after being shot in the head at Saint Martin de Porres Funeral Service on D. Arellano Street, Bagong Barrio, where he had been working for 10 years.

Around 1:30 p.m., Buyones was seated on a bench beside a casket when a man barged in, shot him and fled, said case investigator PO1 Ariel dela Cruz.

Footage from a closed-circuit television camera in the area captured the gunman, dressed in a brown vest and denim shorts, casually walking away from the scene of the crime.

Randy Chua, son of the funeral home’s owner, said Buyones had been a “loyal, quiet stay-in worker who did mostly secretarial work for them.” —Krixia Subingsubing
