‘Ramil’ closer to Calamian Group

Tropical Depression Ramil continued to move closer to the Calamian Group of Islands midday Wednesday, the weather bureau said.

Moderate to occasionally heavy rain is expected over the areas under Signal Number 1, namely, Northern Palawan including the Calamian Group of Islands; Southern Occidental Mindoro, Southern Oriental Mindoro, Aklan and Antique, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

Weather forecaster Chris Perez said Metro Manila, the Bicol region, Calabarzon, and the rest of Mimaropa were also expected to have moderate to occasionally heavy rain.

Ramil was last spotted 85 kilometers east southeast of Coron, Palawan, with maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 60 kph.

The tropical depression continued to move westward at 20 kph and, if it continued its track, it might be out of the Philippine area of responsibility by Thursday evening or early Friday.

Sea travel remained dangerous over areas under Signal Number 1 as well as the seaboards of Northern Luzon and the eastern seaboard of Central and Southern Luzon. /cbb
