5.1-magnitude quake hits Ilocos Sur; aftershocks expected

A 5.1 magnitude earthquake struck Ilocos Sur on Thursday afternoon and aftershocks are expected.

The tremor was recorded 3:06 p.m., 35 kilometers northwest of Santa Catalina as its epicenter, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.

The tectonic quake had a depth of 25 kilometers.

Intensity III was felt in Vigan City and Santa.

Phivolcs also recorded Instrumental Intensity V in Sinait, Ilocos Sur and Instrumental Intensity III in Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte.

No immediate damage was recorded from the quake. /je
