TACLOBAN CITY- Two construction workers were killed on Wednesday afternoon when a landslide hit the area where they were working on inside a school compound in Lavezares town, Northern Samar province.

killed were Jonnel Nabor, 21, and Elmer Abayon,30, and both from Barangay Kalabog, Victoria town, also in Northern Samar.

PO1 Albert Enguerra, police desk officer of Lavezares police station, said in a phone interview that the two were buried alive by a rampaging boulder while they were excavating inside the Libas Elementary School.

The victims were among the more than 10 workers of CE Constructions and Supplies who were constructing a school building inside the compound of Libas Elementary School located within the town proper.

The school was located at the foot of the mountain but it was not raining at that time.

Their co-workers immediately sought the help of the Bureau of Fire Protection as they raced against time in searching for them.

But the bodies of the two workers were recovered around 5 p.m. or 3 hours after the incident.

“They were doing some excavation when a boulder coming down from the mountain hit them and buried them. It took three hours before they were retrieved,” said Enguerra.
