ACCORDING to the Greek philosopher Plato ,“The most effective kind of education is that a child should play amongst lovely things.”
But how lovely can it be for the children, especially Badjao children, who experience poverty and hunger?
Things have started to change for this minority group as government services started pouring in to educate and provide them with preventive health opportunities through the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, a poverty-alleviation program implemented by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
Seeing the change brought about by the program in the lives of the beneficiaries, the Jollibee Group responded to the call of the government for public-private partnership to eradicate poverty.
The fast-food chain launched the “Piso Piso Para sa Batang Sugbo” program to treat children beneficiaries with goodies.
The program includes the giving of bundles of clothing and a medical mission for Badjao beneficiaries.
For Jollibee it is more than just compliance for community service, it is a commitment to be part of change.
For DSWD, any partnership towards helping the poor cross the poverty threshold is a welcome opportunity.
